I am a Warfarin lifer. I had a pulmonary embolism in September 2014 when a pain in my left calf woke me up from a deep sleep. I switched positions but that didn't help. I got up (I had been in the recliner) and after taking 4 steps knew something wasn't right. I took a few more steps and yelled for my husband as I passed out. I came to hearing his voice begging me to breathe. He helped me up and called 911. I passed out again waiting for the paramedics. I was rushed to the ER where I was diagnosed with a PE and spent the next several days in the hospital taking my daily dose of Lovenox/Heparin. When I was discharged, they gave me Warfarin. I went to a Hematologist for testing which all came back normal. Although my Dr. had no definite proof of why I had a PE, he said my family history didn't help. My Mom has had 7 blood clots: 5 DVT's and 2 PE's. My sister had a PE following surgery. Also, I have Lymphedema in my legs and am overweight which doesn't help. When I started taking Warfarin, I stopped eating ALL things with VK in them. I was extremely stressed out about what to eat! I already struggled with anxiety but after the PE, it was out of control! Any sort of pain or twinge in my legs and I freaked out! For a long time I couldn't stay by myself because I was afraid of having another PE. It has taken almost 4 years but I am now at a place where I'm comfortable eating a certain level of VK daily. It also helps tremendously that my INR levels have remained consistent since 2014. My dose of 10mg hasn't changed since October 2014 and my Dr said he's never seen that happen. Of course I know my dose is high but until I lose weight, there is no hope of getting off the medicine. This site is awesome! Thank you so much for creating it and sharing your experiences. I have been reading some of the other comments/stories on here and they have touched my heart. We are all in this together.
