I have a mitral valve mechanical. I have to take warfarin and have a wheat allergy so I am trying to lose weight . I just need to lose 10 pounds to help an umbilical hernia not be aggravated. I test with a machine I paid for. The health department handles my INR levels. I deliver pizzas and I am very active doing that since I cannot eat them :) I stay up late and worry alot. I'm afraid curbing my diet which is fairly healthy might throw INR off.

I have a mechanical aortic valve from a birth defect. I self test weekly with a coaguchek out of my own pocket and fully manage my warfarin dosing myself, I am fairly young so have another 30-40 years on warfarin so managing it myself was an easy choice :-) Its hard not to worry, another surgery at some point is a possibility for me but you just have get on with life.
I havnt made any diet changes at all and certainly not cut out veges, I have recently started taking 100mcg vit k1 supplement daily and so far it has made my INR more stable without any changes to my dose. As for alcohol, I still drink occaisionally but I was never a big drinker prior surgery so no change there, a friend if mine who is also a mechanical valver drinks wine most nights with his evening meal.

I have Celiac Sprue and am on Warfarin for Afib. The best advice which has been repeated by the pharmacists from my Anticoagulation clinic has been to stick to my regular diet. The Warfarin was adjusted accordingly and it's worked well. I know some of my triggers for increasing the INR (Pomegranite juice and wine) so I try to limit that and can still enjoy the beverage. If you eat a healthy diet, you should be able to lose weight. I do home monitoring and have given up worrying, it doesn't change anything. Let go and let God.
